Should you race here?
A fairground in the middle of a small city, across the road from the station, at half the price of the western European races.
Reasons to
- The main railway station is about ten minutes on foot, and six tram lines stop at the ground.
- Beds near the venue are around USD 72, less than half what Dublin or Utrecht cost.
- Everything worth seeing is within a walk or one tram of the start line.
- Poznan is a short flight from Britain and Ireland, and three hours by train from Berlin.
Reasons not to
- It is the coldest race of the month: 7.1°C (45°F) by day and 1.8°C (35°F) at night.
- Daylight runs from 07:23 to 15:54, under nine hours.
- Coal heating starts in November, so air quality can be worse than the temperature suggests.
Conditions on the day
BOSS PARFUMS HYROX POZNAŃ runs November 20th, 2026 to November 22nd, 2026 at Poznan International Fair. Here is what that specific window is like on the ground.

Poznan has moved building, moved season, and grown from a single day into the best part of a week. Where you race, and when, changes the day more than most people expect.
Poznan International Fair, your race is in this building
An exhibition ground in the middle of the city, across the road from the main railway station and walkable from the old town.
Known for. Trade fairs since 1921. It is the largest exhibition ground in Poland and the reason Poznan is a business city.
The building. Founded as the Poznan Trade Fair in 1921 on the site of a pre-war exhibition, and rebuilt after the war. The halls span a century of styles.
Race day and start times
The thing that shapes your travel is not the race date. It is when you find out what time you are racing on it.
Hyrox links individual start times on the event page about three days before the race. A provisional schedule goes up earlier.
What to bring
At the ground, and only on the day you compete. Registration opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division.
You do not bring a chip. You collect the ankle strap at check-in, wear it for the race, and hand it back after the line.
What your wristband does not cover
You are given a wristband at check-in. Hyrox has not published what the Poznan one admits you to, and check-in is open only on the day you race, so do not assume it covers a second day.
Getting there on the morning
The ground is about ten minutes on foot from the main station, and the trams at Dworzec Zachodni run from early morning.
What you need to book
Before you book
Book flights and the last night around the provisional schedule, not around a wave you have not been given.
If Hyrox cancels or postpones the event, its terms do not cover your flights or your room. Check the cancellation deadline on both before you pay for either.
Flying into the city
The airport is small and about fifteen minutes from the centre by taxi.

Most people fly in for one race and see nothing. The day before is dead time if you do not plan it.

Getting to Poznan
The fairground is across the road from Poznan Glowny, the main railway station.
The main station is across the road
Poznan Glowny is about ten minutes on foot from the ground, and six tram lines stop beside it at Dworzec Zachodni. Race morning needs no planning.
A short hop from the airport
Lawica is about fifteen minutes by taxi. The 159 bus takes about twenty-five minutes to the main station, which is then a walk.
Entry requirements
Quick tip
From the airport a taxi takes about 15 minutes. The 159 bus goes to the main station in about 25 minutes.
Getting to the venue
Nearly everything in Poznan is walkable from the ground. The old town is twenty minutes on foot and the station is ten.
The fairground is across the road from Poznan Glowny, the main station, so almost nobody needs transport on race morning. Six tram lines stop at Dworzec Zachodni beside it.
Where to stay
The ground is in the centre, so the usual problem does not arise. Almost anywhere in Poznan is a walk or one tram from the start line.
Open in Google Maps · Get directions
1. Hotels beside the fairground
Built for the trade fairs, about USD 72 a night, and cheaper than the city average because they empty between shows.
2. Hotels by Poznan Glowny
The station is across the road from the ground, so the race and the train are each a few minutes away.
3. Hotels in the old town
The renaissance square and the best eating, twenty minutes on foot or a short tram ride back.
Hotels around the ground are priced for trade fairs and go cheap when none is on. Nothing large is booked that week.
Neighbourhoods worth the commute
Poznan is small and the ground is central, so nowhere worth staying is far.
| Area | To the venue | Why | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lazarz | 5 to 10 min on foot | Borders the fairground. Nineteenth-century tenements, a covered market and the cheapest beds near the start. | |
| Stare Miasto | about 20 min on foot | The renaissance square with the goats that butt heads on the town hall at noon. The restaurants here are the best in the city. | |
| Jezyce | about 10 min by tram | Tenement streets full of cafes and independent shops, and where people who live here actually go out. | |
| Wilda | about 10 min by tram | Former industrial district turning residential, with markets and low prices. Quiet at night. |
Eating before and after
The night before a race is not the night for the best meal of your trip, which is harder discipline than it sounds in a city this good at food.
A milk bar
Bar mleczny are subsidised canteens left from the communist era, still serving plain food at low prices. Exactly the right kind of boring for the night before.
Around the station
The blocks between the ground and Poznan Glowny have ordinary kitchens that serve early, which the old town does not always.
Poland feeds you heavily and cheaply, and almost all of it is the wrong idea the night before a race.
St Martin's croissant
A protected local pastry filled with white poppy seed, made for 11 November and sold through the month. Enormous, very sweet and specific to this city.
Pierogi and zurek
Dumplings filled with cheese, potato or meat, and a sour rye soup served in bread. Both are worth travelling for and both are heavier than they look.
Race day supplies
The practical failures that spoil a race weekend are almost never the training. They are forgetting the gels, or carrying a kit bag around a city for six hours.
Pack list
- More warmth than you think. This is the coldest race of the month, at 7°C (45°F) by day and 1.8°C (35°F) at night.
- Something for grey rather than wet: 35mm of rain across seven days.
- Cash is less necessary than it used to be, but small shops still prefer it.
Quick tips
- Poland is cheap by western European standards, so a three-night weekend here costs roughly half what Dublin does.
- Trams take a 45-minute ticket at PLN 7, but you will mostly be walking.
The Lazarz market and a supermarket are within a few minutes of the ground. Anything specialised means the centre.
The last race in Poznan
Hyrox has not raced at the Poznan International Fair before, so there is no previous weekend here to describe.
What happened
The last edition, in short.
- This is the first Hyrox at the Poznan International Fair, so nobody has a lap of it to pass on.
- The fairground is a century old and its halls are not uniform, so check which hall your race is in.
What it means for you
How your race differs from that one.
- No report from a previous year describes this building, because there has not been one.
- The ground is in the city centre, so the race is easy to reach and the streets around it are busy.
What else is on that weekend
One of these shares the fairground with you.
| What | When | Where | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Targi Rzeczy Ladnych, a design and craft fair | 21 and 22 November | Poznan International Fair | The same ground, the same two days. Expect the halls and the car park to be busier than the race alone would make them. |
| Peja and Slums Attack, a Polish hip-hop institution | 21 November | MTP hall 3a, on the fairground | An evening concert in a neighbouring hall. It empties out late, onto the same trams. |
| Nocny Kochanek | 21 November | A city venue, 19:00 | Across town, no effect on the ground. |
| Grzegorz Turnau | 22 November | A city venue, 18:00 | Sunday evening, after most waves have finished. |
What to see
Written for someone racing tomorrow, not a tourist with a week. Each entry says how far it is, because some of these are worth a longer trip and some are not.
The Stary Rynek and the goats
At noon two mechanical goats butt heads above the renaissance town hall, and the whole square stops to watch. The square itself was rebuilt after the war from photographs.
Porta Posnania
An interpretation centre on Cathedral Island covering the founding of Poland, which happened here. Modern, well made and more interesting than that description suggests.
The Enigma Cipher Centre
Three Poznan mathematicians broke the Enigma code in 1932, seven years before Bletchley. This museum is about them and it is the best thing in the city.
The Imperial Castle
Built for Kaiser Wilhelm II and later remodelled for Hitler, which gives it an uncomfortable architectural history. It is a cultural centre now, a few minutes from the ground.
What to do
Walk Cathedral Island
Ostrow Tumski is where Poland began, with a cathedral holding the first Polish rulers. Twenty minutes from the ground and an easy hour on flat ground.
Lake Malta
An artificial lake east of the centre with a path right round it and a ski slope at one end. Flat, quiet and the best place to loosen your legs.
The Lazarz market
A covered market beside the fairground selling what people actually cook with. Five minutes from the start line and open in the mornings.
Drink in Jezyce
The tenement streets north-west of the station have the bars Poznan goes to rather than the ones it shows visitors. Cheap and unhurried.
