Should you race here?
The highest venue on this calendar, in the driest air, in the home of tequila and mariachi.
Reasons to
- An ordinary meal is MXN 113 and a central room about MXN 1,200, which is cheap for a major city.
- Only 4mm of rain across March, on a single day.
- The Lechuga stop is four minutes from the hall at MXN 11 a journey.
- Tlaquepaque, Tequila and the Orozco murals are all within an hour.
Reasons not to
- The venue is 1,545 metres up, which is high enough to affect a hard effort.
- There is a twenty-degree swing between the 9°C (48°F) dawn and the 30°C (86°F) afternoon.
- No airport transfer time or fare to this address is published anywhere.
- The valley traps traffic emissions and the dry spring is the worst of it.

Guadalajara has moved building, moved season, and grown from a single day into the best part of a week. Where you race, and when, changes the day more than most people expect.
Expo Guadalajara, your race is in this building
The largest exhibition centre in Mexico, south-west of the city centre, with nearly two thousand parking spaces and a bus stop four minutes away.
Known for. The Guadalajara International Book Fair, the largest Spanish-language book fair in the world.
The building. Opened in 1987 and extended several times, growing with Guadalajara's role as the trade capital of western Mexico.
Race day and start times
The thing that shapes your travel is not the race date. It is when you find out what time you are racing on it.
Hyrox links individual start times on the event page a few days before the race. A provisional schedule goes up earlier.
What to bring
At Expo Guadalajara, and only on the day you compete. Registration opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division.
You do not bring a chip. You collect the ankle strap at check-in, wear it for the race, and hand it back after the line.
What your wristband does not cover
You are given a wristband at check-in. Hyrox has not published what the Guadalajara one admits you to. Check-in is open only on the day you race, so do not assume it covers a second day.
Getting there on the morning
A city bus to the Lechuga stop, four minutes from the venue, or drive and use the 1,912 spaces.
What you need to book
Before you book
The listing runs 19 to 21 March, so confirm your division's day before booking the last night.
If Hyrox cancels or postpones the event, its terms do not cover your flights or your room. Check the cancellation deadline on both before you pay for either.
Flying into the city
Mexico City is an hour's flight or seven by road, and connects almost everywhere else.

City buses to Lechuga
Several lines stop four minutes from the venue at eleven pesos a journey, which is about sixty US cents. No day ticket is published.
From the airport
Nothing published gives a route, a time or a fare from GDL to this address. Check a live map rather than trusting an estimate.
Entry requirements
Quick tip
Plan the airport leg on a live map before you land, because nothing published covers this address.
Getting to the venue
Verde Valle around the venue is a business district. Centro and Chapalita are the two areas worth staying in, both a short ride away.
The Lechuga stop is four minutes from the venue and several bus lines serve it at MXN 11 a journey, which is about sixty US cents. No source publishes a transfer time or fare from the airport to this address, so plan that leg on a live map.
Where to stay
The venue is in Verde Valle, a business district south-west of the centre. Centro and Chapalita are the areas worth staying in.
Open in Google Maps · Get directions
1. Hotels in Verde Valle
The venue's own district, built around the expo and the business park. It is convenient, and quiet outside fair weeks.
2. Hotels in Chapalita
A leafy residential district with a circular park and good eating, close to the venue and calmer than the centre.
3. Hotels in Centro
The cathedral, the Hospicio Cabañas and the markets, averaging about MXN 1,200 a night. Where the city actually is.
The city's March concerts and the expo in your own building all finish before the race weekend, so rooms should price as an ordinary March.
Neighbourhoods worth the commute
Guadalajara spreads across a high valley, with the venue in the modern south-west and the old city to the north-east.
| Area | To the venue | Why | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verde Valle | 5 to 15 min on foot | The business district around the expo centre. Functional, with hotels built for the trade fairs. | |
| Chapalita | about 15 min by bus | Residential and leafy, built around a circular park, with good restaurants and a Sunday art market. | |
| Zapopan | about 20 min by bus | A separate municipality folded into the city, with the basilica and the newer commercial districts. | |
| Centro | about 25 min by bus | The historic core: the cathedral, the Hospicio Cabañas with its Orozco murals, and the covered market. | |
| Tlaquepaque | about 25 min by bus | A craft town absorbed by the city, with ceramics workshops and courtyards. The nicest few hours here. |
Eating before and after
The night before a race is not the night for the best meal of your trip, which is harder discipline than it sounds in a city this good at food.
Verde Valle and Chapalita
The business district and the park beyond it have ordinary places doing rice, chicken and pasta. No source names one with a price, so pick by the queue.
Avenida Chapalita
Fifteen minutes from the hall, with restaurants around the circular park that serve from early evening. Better choice than Verde Valle.
Jalisco gave Mexico tequila, mariachi and two dishes that the city will argue with you about.
Torta ahogada
A crusty roll of fried pork drowned in a thin chilli sauce, eaten over the plate because it falls apart. Las Famosas in Centro does one for eighty-three pesos.
Birria
Goat or beef slow-stewed in chillies and served with the broth, from Las Nueve Esquinas where the birrierías cluster. No price is published.
Race day supplies
The practical failures that spoil a race weekend are almost never the training. They are forgetting the gels, or carrying a kit bag around a city for six hours.
Pack list
- Layers for a twenty-degree swing, from 9°C (48°F) at dawn to 30°C (86°F) by afternoon.
- Lip balm and more water than usual. At 1,545 metres and 46% humidity you dry out fast.
- Almost no waterproofing. Four millimetres fall across the whole month.
Quick tips
- Buses are MXN 11 a journey and no day ticket is published.
- Drink through the day, not just at the venue. The altitude and the dry air compound.
Verde Valle and Chapalita both have supermarkets within fifteen minutes. Mexican shops keep long hours including Sundays.
The last race in Guadalajara
Hyrox raced in Guadalajara in February 2026. No source confirms the hall or the layout from that edition, so there is little local form to pass on.
What happened
The last edition, in short.
- The venue sits 1,545 metres up, the highest on this calendar.
- The Lechuga stop is four minutes away, served by several city bus lines.
What it means for you
How your race differs from that one.
- March here is close to rainless: 4mm across the whole month, on one day.
- No airport transfer time or fare to this address is published anywhere.
What else is on that weekend
A busy fortnight of concerts, all of it before the race.
| What | When | Where | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expo Café and Gourmet | 3 to 5 March | Expo Guadalajara | In your own building, finishing two weeks before the race. Nothing to work around. |
| Concerts at the Arena | 12 and 13 March | Arena Guadalajara | Both the weekend before the race. Over before you arrive. |
| Concerts at Auditorio Telmex | 16 and 17 March | Auditorio Telmex, Zapopan | Two and three days before the race opens. They will have cleared by the Friday. |
| Nothing confirmed on the race days | 19 to 21 March | Across Guadalajara | No event of size was confirmed for the race weekend itself. |
What to see
Written for someone racing tomorrow, not a tourist with a week. Each entry says how far it is, because some of these are worth a longer trip and some are not.
Hospicio Cabañas
A neoclassical orphanage from 1810 whose chapel ceiling carries Orozco's Man of Fire. UNESCO-listed and the one thing to see in this city.
Tlaquepaque
A craft town of courtyards, ceramics workshops and mariachi in the main square, swallowed by the city but still its own place.
The cathedral and Centro
Twin yellow-tiled spires over a square of plazas and government palaces, with another Orozco mural inside the Palacio de Gobierno.
Tequila, the town
An hour north-west, where the blue agave fields and the distilleries are, both UNESCO-listed. The day trip if you add one on.
What to do
Parque Metropolitano
A large park north-west of the venue with running loops and shade, which matters when it reaches 30°C (86°F). The obvious shake-out.
Mariachi in Plaza de los Mariachis
The square by the market where the bands wait to be hired, and where the music was born. It is loud, and it is the real thing.
Mercado San Juan de Dios
The largest indoor market in Latin America, three floors of food, leather and everything else. Overwhelming and worth an hour.
Chapalita's Sunday market
An art and craft market around the circular park, between the venue and the centre. A gentle way to spend a morning before racing.
