Should you race here?
The warmest and one of the cheapest races of the month, in the best street-food city there is.
Reasons to
- An ordinary meal is about THB 100, which is roughly three dollars.
- A 23-minute taxi from the airport for six to eight dollars, the cheapest transfer on this calendar.
- 32.1°C (90°F) and 15mm of rain across the month, in Bangkok's best season.
- The Skytrain runs from Bang Na to everywhere worth going, and a day pass is THB 150.
Reasons not to
- February is the worst month of the year here for air quality, and the haze season peaks now.
- 32.1°C (90°F) will cost a European runner real time, whatever the humidity is doing.
- BITEC is in a suburb, so the city is twenty to thirty-five minutes up the line.
Conditions on the day
BYD HYROX Bangkok runs February 11th, 2027 to February 14th, 2027 at BITEC. Here is what that specific window is like on the ground.
The catch
The warmest race of the month
32°C (90°F) by day, 23°C (74°F) at night
Bangkok in mid-February
- The February average reaches 32.1°C (90°F) by day and falls to 23.2°C (74°F) at night, the warmest race of the month.
- It is also the driest time of year here: 15mm across two days.
- Humidity is 67%, which is low for Bangkok and part of why February is the season to visit.
- Daylight runs 06:42 to 18:22, and barely moves across the year.

Bangkok has moved building, moved season, and grown from a single day into the best part of a week. Where you race, and when, changes the day more than most people expect.
BITEC, your race is in this building
A large exhibition centre in Bang Na, in the south-east of the city, with a Skytrain station at the end of the street.
Known for. The Bangkok motor show and most of the trade fairs that come to Thailand.
The building. Opened in 1997 on the Bangna-Trad road as Bangkok's exhibition business outgrew the old centre, and extended with the BHIRAJ halls since.
Race day and start times
The thing that shapes your travel is not the race date. It is when you find out what time you are racing on it.
Hyrox links individual start times on the event page about three days before the race. A provisional schedule goes up earlier.
What to bring
At BITEC, and only on the day you compete. Registration opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division.
You do not bring a chip. You collect the ankle strap at check-in, wear it for the race, and hand it back after the line.
What your wristband does not cover
You are given a wristband at check-in. Hyrox has not published what the Bangkok one admits you to. Check-in is open only on the day you race, so do not assume it covers a second day.
Getting there on the morning
The BTS to Bang Na, or a ride-hail if your wave is before the trains start. The roads are clear early.
What you need to book
Before you book
Book flights and the last night around the provisional schedule, not around a wave you have not been given.
If Hyrox cancels or postpones the event, its terms do not cover your flights or your room. Check the cancellation deadline on both before you pay for either.
Flying into the city
Don Mueang is the low-cost airport, north of the city and about an hour from Bang Na.

Most people fly in for one race and see nothing. The day before is dead time if you do not plan it.

Getting to Bangkok
Suvarnabhumi is about 23 minutes from BITEC by taxi, for six to eight dollars.
Taxi from Suvarnabhumi
Twenty-three minutes and about seven dollars on the meter, which is the cheapest airport transfer on this calendar by a long way.
The BTS Sukhumvit line
The Skytrain runs the length of the city to Bang Na. A day pass is THB 150 and it beats the traffic by a wide margin.
Entry requirements
Quick tip
Use the meter or a ride-hail app rather than a kerbside fixed price. The metered fare is a fraction of the quoted one.
Getting to the venue
Bang Na is suburban and quiet. Sukhumvit and Thonglor are 20 to 25 minutes up the BTS and are where the city is.
The BTS Sukhumvit line runs the length of the city to Bang Na, which is the only sensible way across Bangkok at any hour. A taxi from Suvarnabhumi is 23 minutes and about seven dollars, which is the cheapest airport transfer on this calendar.
Where to stay
Bang Na is a suburb with the exhibition centre in it. The BTS runs north into the city in twenty to thirty-five minutes, which is where everything is.
Open in Google Maps · Get directions
1. Hotels in Bang Na
From about THB 1,370 a night, which is roughly forty dollars. Closest to the hall and suburban in the evening.
2. Hotels in Thonglor and Ekkamai
The best eating and drinking in the city, on the same BTS line. Twenty minutes from the hall.
3. Hotels around Asok and Siam
The interchanges, the malls and most of the hotel stock. Rooms here average nearer THB 3,730 a night.
February is Bangkok's high season and the arena shows take rooms across the week. Book earlier than you would for a quiet month.
Neighbourhoods worth the commute
Bangkok is enormous and the BTS is the only reliable way across it, so everything below is measured along the Sukhumvit line.
| Area | To the venue | Why | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bang Na | 5 to 15 min on foot | A suburban district built around the exhibition centre and the expressway. Cheap, convenient and not a destination. | |
| Ekkamai and Thonglor | about 20 min by BTS | Where Bangkok eats and drinks now: Japanese counters, coffee roasters and bars down the side sois. | |
| Asok and mid-Sukhumvit | about 25 min by BTS | The main interchange, where the hotel stock is concentrated. The malls are here too, and every line crosses. | |
| Siam | about 30 min by BTS | The shopping core and the BTS interchange, with the palace and the river a short ride further west. | |
| Silom | about 35 min by BTS | The business district, with Lumphini park at one end and the night markets at the other. |
Eating before and after
The night before a race is not the night for the best meal of your trip, which is harder discipline than it sounds in a city this good at food.
The BITEC food court
Third floor of the exhibition centre, about a hundred and fifty baht for a main, a dessert and a drink. Plain, close and the easiest meal here.
Bang Na, around the station
Shophouse restaurants and a mall near the BTS, all of them serving rice and noodles before seven. Nothing special and nothing to plan.
Thai street food is extraordinary and a plate costs about a pound.
Jay Fai, Phra Nakhon
A woman in ski goggles cooking crab omelettes over charcoal in the old city, with a Michelin star and a queue to match. A thousand to fifteen hundred baht a dish.
Anywhere with plastic stools
A plate of pad kaprao or boat noodles from a pavement cart, for about a hundred baht. This is the food Bangkok is actually famous for.
Race day supplies
The practical failures that spoil a race weekend are almost never the training. They are forgetting the gels, or carrying a kit bag around a city for six hours.
Pack list
- A mask if you are asthmatic. February is the peak of the Bangkok haze season and it varies a lot day to day.
- More electrolytes than a European race. 32.1°C (90°F) is the warmest of the month.
- A layer for indoors. Thai air conditioning is set very cold.
Quick tips
- Insist on the meter in a taxi, or use a ride-hail app. The kerbside fixed price is several times the fare.
- Check the air index the week before. A bad February day in Bangkok is a genuine reason to change your warm-up plan.
Bang Na has malls and 7-Elevens on every corner, which in Thailand covers almost everything at any hour.
The last race in Bangkok
BITEC is a recent addition to the Hyrox calendar, so there is little previous form here to pass on.
What happened
The last edition, in short.
- Bang Na station on the BTS Sukhumvit line, exit 1, is a short walk from the halls.
- The site has several halls across two buildings, so check which one before you arrive.
What it means for you
How your race differs from that one.
- February is the worst month of the Bangkok year for air. The seasonal haze runs November to March and peaks now.
- 32.1°C (90°F) by day makes this the warmest race of the month.
What else is on that weekend
A busy stretch of the Bangkok calendar, though nothing is at BITEC.
| What | When | Where | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Katseye, on the Wildworld tour | 12 February | Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani | The Friday, at an arena on the far north side. An hour from Bang Na and no effect on the race. |
| Chinese New Year | From 6 February, running two weeks | Yaowarat and across the city | The main days are the week before, but the fortnight stays busy. Yaowarat is worth an evening while it is lit. |
| Maroon 5, just before | 9 February | Impact Arena | The Tuesday. Gone before race week but it tightens the city's hotel rooms across the whole week. |
| Bangkok Design Week | From 18 February | The old-town districts | Starts after racing ends, with four hundred mostly free installations. Worth it if you are staying on. |
What to see
Written for someone racing tomorrow, not a tourist with a week. Each entry says how far it is, because some of these are worth a longer trip and some are not.
The Grand Palace and Wat Pho
The royal compound and the reclining Buddha next door, which together are the reason most people first come to Bangkok. Go at opening, before the heat and the coaches.
Wat Arun, from the river
The temple of dawn on the west bank, best seen from a two-baht ferry crossing rather than from inside it. Go in the late afternoon, with the light behind it.
Jim Thompson House
Six teak houses assembled into one by the American who revived Thai silk and then vanished in Malaysia in 1967. A cool, shaded hour in the middle of the city.
Yaowarat after dark
Chinatown, lit up and cooking on the pavement, and in February still carrying the new year decorations. Free, loud and the best eating in the city.
What to do
The Chao Phraya express boat
A commuter ferry up the river past the temples, for a few baht. The coolest and cheapest sightseeing in Bangkok and it runs all day.
Lumphini Park at dawn
The city's central park, with a 2.5km loop, outdoor gyms and monitor lizards in the lake. Go at six, before it gets above thirty.
A Thai massage
An hour of being folded, for about three hundred baht at an ordinary shop. The day after is the right time, and Wat Pho runs the school that teaches it.
Ayutthaya for the day
The old capital, ninety minutes north by train, left in ruins by the Burmese in 1767 and never rebuilt. February is the season for it.
