Should you race here?
A train from inside the airport terminal to a venue beside an Olympic park, in the pick of Atlanta's year.
Reasons to
- MARTA runs from inside the terminal to downtown in about fifteen minutes for USD 2.50.
- April is the pick of the year here: 23°C (73°F) and 65% humidity.
- Centennial Olympic Park, the aquarium and the stadium are all at the venue.
- Over thirteen hours of daylight, with light until quarter past eight.
Reasons not to
- A downtown room averages about USD 340, the dearest on this calendar.
- The GWCC is enormous and the hall is not published.
- Spring pollen in Atlanta is severe enough that visitors notice it.
- No event listings were reachable for the dates, so the city calendar is unchecked.

Atlanta has moved building, moved season, and grown from a single day into the best part of a week. Where you race, and when, changes the day more than most people expect.
Georgia World Congress Center, your race is in this building
One of the largest convention centres in the United States, on the western edge of downtown beside the football stadium and the aquarium.
Known for. Trade shows on a scale few buildings can hold, and for hosting events through the 1996 Olympics.
The building. Opened in 1976 and extended three times since, growing into the district around Centennial Olympic Park.
Race day and start times
The thing that shapes your travel is not the race date. It is when you find out what time you are racing on it.
Hyrox links individual start times on the event page a few days before the race. A provisional schedule goes up earlier.
What to bring
At the Georgia World Congress Center, and only on the day you compete. Registration opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division.
You do not bring a chip. You collect the ankle strap at check-in, wear it for the race, and hand it back after the line.
What your wristband does not cover
You are given a wristband at check-in. Hyrox has not published what the Atlanta one admits you to. Check-in is open only on the day you race, so do not assume it covers a second day.
Getting there on the morning
MARTA's Blue Line to the venue district, or a walk from most downtown hotels.
What you need to book
Before you book
The listing runs 23 to 25 April, so confirm your division's day before booking the last night.
If Hyrox cancels or postpones the event, its terms do not cover your flights or your room. Check the cancellation deadline on both before you pay for either.
Flying into the city
Nearly everywhere in North America has a direct route here, which is the main reason this race is easy to reach.

MARTA from the terminal

Entry requirements
Quick tip
The station is inside the terminal rather than a shuttle ride away, which makes this the easiest American airport on the calendar to arrive at.
Getting to the venue
Downtown puts you beside the venue but averages about USD 340 a night. Midtown is seventeen minutes up the line and usually cheaper.
MARTA runs a direct train from inside the airport terminal to downtown in about fifteen minutes for USD 2.50, which is rare among American cities and makes this one of the simplest arrivals on the calendar. A one-day pass is USD 9.
Where to stay
The venue is on the western edge of downtown. Midtown is a few MARTA stops north and usually cheaper.
Open in Google Maps · Get directions
1. Hotels downtown
Beside the venue, the park and the aquarium, and averaging about USD 340 a night. The shortest walk and the highest price here.
2. Hotels in Midtown
The arts district, with Piedmont Park, the High Museum and more restaurants. Seventeen minutes on the train and usually better value.
3. Hotels in Buckhead
The upscale district with the shopping and the dining, at the north end of the line. Further out and quieter.
No competing event was confirmed for these dates, but downtown rates run high regardless, so Midtown is worth pricing before you settle on walking distance.
Neighbourhoods worth the commute
Atlanta runs north from downtown along the MARTA line, and the neighbourhoods get leafier as you go.
| Area | To the venue | Why | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown | 5 to 15 min on foot | The venue, Centennial Olympic Park, the aquarium and the stadium in one cluster. Convenient and expensive. | |
| Midtown | about 17 min by MARTA | Piedmont Park, the High Museum and the best concentration of restaurants. The sensible compromise. | |
| Virginia-Highland | about 20 min | A leafy older neighbourhood of bungalows, boutiques and bars north-east of Midtown. No MARTA station. | |
| Old Fourth Ward | about 20 min | East of downtown on the BeltLine, with Ponce City Market and the King historic site. The most walkable district here. | |
| Buckhead | about 25 min by MARTA | The affluent north, with shopping and hotels along Peachtree. Furthest out and on the line. |
Eating before and after
The night before a race is not the night for the best meal of your trip, which is harder discipline than it sounds in a city this good at food.
Downtown, near the park
The blocks around Centennial Olympic Park carry the usual chains and hotel restaurants, five to ten minutes from the hall. Dull and convenient.
Midtown
Seventeen minutes north on MARTA, with far more choice and plainer kitchens. Worth the trip the night before if you are staying up there.
Atlanta eats southern food, and fried chicken is the thing the city argues about.
Fried chicken at Mary Mac's
A Midtown tea room going since 1945, serving fried chicken, collards and cornbread in the old southern style. No meal price is published.
Paschal's
A Castleberry Hill institution that fed the civil rights leadership through the 1960s and still does fried chicken. History and a plate at once.
Race day supplies
The practical failures that spoil a race weekend are almost never the training. They are forgetting the gels, or carrying a kit bag around a city for six hours.
Pack list
- Layers for the eleven-degree spread between the 12°C (54°F) dawn and the 23°C (73°F) afternoon.
- Antihistamines if you react to pollen. Atlanta in April is famous for it.
- A light rain jacket for 97mm across about nine days.
Quick tips
- A MARTA day pass is USD 9 against USD 2.50 a journey.
- Price Midtown before downtown. The difference is large.
Downtown has pharmacies and convenience stores within a few minutes, and Ponce City Market has a proper grocery. American shops keep long hours including Sundays.
The last race in Atlanta
Hyrox raced at the Georgia World Congress Center in 2025, confirmed by that year's listing. No source gives the hall or the layout, so there is little local form to pass on.
What happened
The last edition, in short.
- MARTA runs from the airport to downtown in about fifteen minutes for USD 2.50.
- The venue sits beside Centennial Olympic Park, the aquarium and the stadium.
What it means for you
How your race differs from that one.
- A downtown room averages about USD 340, the dearest on this calendar.
- The GWCC is enormous, so confirm your building and hall before you arrive.
What else is on that weekend
Nothing confirmed for the race dates, in a district that usually has something on.
| What | When | Where | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nothing confirmed | 23 to 25 April | Across Atlanta | The listings pass found no event for these dates. Given the size of the GWCC, check again nearer the time. |
| Centennial Olympic Park | All weekend | Next to the venue | The 1996 Olympic park is immediately outside, free and open, with the fountain and lawns. |
| The Georgia Aquarium | All weekend | Beside the park | One of the largest aquariums anywhere, a few minutes from the hall. Busy at weekends, so book ahead. |
| The BeltLine | All weekend | East of downtown | A disused rail loop turned into a path through the eastern neighbourhoods. The best running and walking in the city. |
What to see
Written for someone racing tomorrow, not a tourist with a week. Each entry says how far it is, because some of these are worth a longer trip and some are not.
The Georgia Aquarium
Among the largest aquariums in the world, with whale sharks in a tank you walk under. Five minutes from the hall and busy at weekends.
The Martin Luther King Jr historic site
His birth home, Ebenezer Baptist Church and the tomb, in the Old Fourth Ward. Run by the National Park Service and free.
The High Museum
A Richard Meier building in Midtown holding the strongest art collection in the south-east, with a Renzo Piano extension beside it.
Centennial Olympic Park
Built for the 1996 games and still the open space downtown, immediately outside the venue. Free, with the ring fountain in the middle.
What to do
The BeltLine Eastside Trail
A disused rail loop turned into a paved path through the eastern neighbourhoods, lined with murals and food halls. The best run in the city.
Piedmont Park
Eighty hectares in Midtown with running paths, a lake and the skyline behind it. Seventeen minutes up the line and the obvious shake-out.
Ponce City Market
A 1920s Sears warehouse on the BeltLine turned into a food hall and shops, with a rooftop. Good for a long lunch after racing.
Stone Mountain
A granite dome east of the city with a walk-up trail and a view over the foothills. Forty minutes by car and a real climb.
