Should you race here?

One metro line from the airport to the door, at the start of the only season Dubai is pleasant in.

Reasons to

  • One metro line from the airport to the door, with no change and a 45-minute ride.
  • 30.7°C (87°F) and almost no rain, which is as good as this city gets.
  • A brand new hall built to move a hundred thousand people a day.
  • The Dubai 7s is on the same weekend if you want a second sporting day out.

Reasons not to

  • Expo City is 40km from the centre, so every evening is a long ride back.
  • It is still 30.7°C (87°F) at 61% humidity, which will cost you minutes if you have come from winter.
  • The 7s and WASLA both land this weekend, so rooms are dearer and scarcer than a normal November.
The one to take seriously. The heat here is not the dry heat people promise. November humidity is 61%, so 30.7°C (87°F) feels closer to 35, and the hall is air-conditioned while the queue outside it is not. Arrive cool and drink more than you think on the way in.

Conditions on the day

HYROX Dubai runs November 27th, 2026 to November 28th, 2026 at Dubai Exhibition Centre. Here is what that specific window is like on the ground.

The catch

Hot by any standard, mild by Dubai's

31°C (87°F) by day, 21°C (70°F) at night

Dubai in late November

  • The November average reaches 30.7°C (87°F) by day and falls to 21.3°C (70°F) at night.
  • This is the month the city comes back outdoors. August would be twelve degrees hotter.
  • Humidity sits at 61%, and 6mm of rain falls across the whole month.
  • Daylight runs 06:45 to 17:28, which is short for how warm the afternoon is.

Dubai has moved building, moved season, and grown from a single day into the best part of a week. Where you race, and when, changes the day more than most people expect.

Dubai Exhibition Centre, your race is in this building

The conference halls built for Expo 2020, kept and reopened as Expo City, out towards Jebel Ali at the far south-west end of the metro.

Known for. Expo 2020, COP28, and the trade shows that have moved out here since.

The building. Built for the 2020 world expo, held in 2021, and retained when the rest of the site was converted into a district rather than demolished.

Race day and start times

The thing that shapes your travel is not the race date. It is when you find out what time you are racing on it.

Hyrox links individual start times on the event page about three days before the race. A provisional schedule goes up earlier.

What that means for booking. Book flights and the last night around the provisional schedule, not around a wave you have not been given.

What to bring

At the exhibition centre, and only on the day you compete. Registration opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division.

You do not bring a chip. You collect the ankle strap at check-in, wear it for the race, and hand it back after the line.

What your wristband does not cover

You are given a wristband at check-in. Hyrox has not published what the Dubai one admits you to, and check-in is open only on the day you race, so do not assume it covers a second day.

Getting there on the morning

The Red Line. It starts around five on weekdays and a little later at the weekend, so check the first train against your wave.

What you need to book

Before you book

Book flights and the last night around the provisional schedule, not around a wave you have not been given.

If Hyrox cancels or postpones the event, its terms do not cover your flights or your room. Check the cancellation deadline on both before you pay for either.

Flying into the city

Al Maktoum (DWC) is much closer to Expo City but takes few passenger flights.

Somewhere to stay

Something to do with the rest of the weekend

Most people fly in for one race and see nothing. The day before is dead time if you do not plan it.

Getting to Dubai

Dubai International is 45 minutes from the venue on one metro line, with no change.

The Red Line, end to end

Dubai International to Expo 2020 is 45 minutes on one train with no change. Buy a silver nol card at the airport and tap through.

Visit site

  • AED 7.50
  • about 45 min

Taxi, if you land late

Thirty minutes from the airport by road and metered the whole way. Faster than the train and the only choice after the line closes at midnight.

  • About 30 min

Entry requirements

Many nationalities get a visa on arrival in the UAE, but not all, and the length varies. Check yours before booking.
The UAE controls a long list of medicines that are ordinary elsewhere, including some codeine and sleep preparations. Check the list and carry a prescription.
Bring your passport to check-in. Hyrox has not published which documents Dubai accepts.

Quick tip

Buy a silver nol card at the airport station. A single to the venue is AED 7.50 and a day pass is AED 20.

Getting to the venue

Nobody lives out at Expo City. The Marina is the closest sensible base at 20 to 30 minutes on the metro, and Downtown is 40 to 45.

The Red Line runs from the airport to the venue without a change and finishes at Expo 2020 station, which is as easy as a race venue gets. The journey is 45 minutes end to end because the city is 50km long, not because the train is slow.

Where to stay

Expo City is at the far end of the line and has little around it. Almost everyone stays along the Red Line and rides in.

2. Hotels in Dubai Marina and JBR

The best balance here: on the Red Line, on the beach, and full of places that serve food at any hour.

  • 25 km
  • The waterfront towers

3. Hotels in Downtown

The centre of the city, and further from the race than it looks, because Dubai is 50km long.

  • 40 km

The Dubai 7s and WASLA are both on this weekend, so rooms go earlier and higher than a normal November. Book before the schedule is out.

Neighbourhoods worth the commute

Dubai is a 50km strip with one metro line down it. Everything below is measured by that line, because driving it at rush hour is worse.

AreaTo the venueWhySuits
Dubai Marina 20 to 30 min by metro Towers around a man-made harbour, with a promenade you can run on and food at every hour. The easiest base for this race.
JBR 25 to 30 min by metro The beach end of the Marina, with the sand on one side and The Walk on the other. Slightly further from a station.
Downtown 40 to 45 min by metro The Burj Khalifa, the mall and the fountain. Where everyone wants to stay, and 40 minutes of metro from the hall.
Al Barsha about 30 min by metro Ordinary, mid-priced and next to the Mall of the Emirates. Good value and on the line.
Deira about 55 min by metro The old city around the creek, with the souks and the best cheap eating. The longest ride and the most interesting evening.

Eating before and after

The night before a race is not the night for the best meal of your trip, which is harder discipline than it sounds in a city this good at food.

The Marina, where you are sleeping

Every kind of food, open late, flat walk from the hotels and on the metro line to the venue. Nothing to plan.

  • About AED 47
  • 20 to 30 min from the venue
  • eat early

Expo City itself

The site has its own cafes and they serve the expo crowd, so they open early and they are a short walk from the hall. Plain, and exactly where you need to be.

  • About AED 50
  • at the venue
  • the only option within walking distance

Emirati food is harder to find here than Indian, Lebanese or Filipino, which is itself the point about Dubai.

Arabian Tea House, Al Fahidi

An Emirati breakfast in a courtyard under a tree in the old quarter: balaleet, chebab, dates and karak. About AED 85 and the nicest hour of the trip.

  • About AED 85
  • Al Fahidi, 50 min from the venue
  • go before nine

Ravi, Al Satwa

A Pakistani canteen that has been feeding the city since 1978, where a full meal is AED 25 to 45 and the queue contains everyone. Order the mutton and the naan.

  • Al Satwa, 45 min from the venue

Race day supplies

The practical failures that spoil a race weekend are almost never the training. They are forgetting the gels, or carrying a kit bag around a city for six hours.

Pack list

  • More electrolytes than a European race. It is 30.7°C (87°F) at 61% humidity even in the good month.
  • Nothing warm. Nights only fall to 21.3°C (70°F).
  • Swimming things. The sea is warm in November and the beach is free.

Quick tips

  • Get a silver nol card at the airport. It works on the metro, the trams and the buses.
  • The metro stops around midnight and starts at five, so a late flight means a taxi.

Expo City has shops but a limited range. The Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall are both on the Red Line and have everything.

The last race in Dubai

Expo City is a recent addition to the Hyrox calendar, so there is little previous form here to pass on.

What happened

The last edition, in short.

  • The hall is part of the Expo 2020 complex, which is signposted throughout and easy to move around.
  • Expo 2020 station on the Red Line is the end of the line, so you cannot miss the stop.

What it means for you

How your race differs from that one.

  • The WASLA festival is at Jubilee Park on the same site on the Saturday, so the grounds will be busy into the night.
  • The Dubai 7s runs the same weekend across town and takes a large share of the city's hotel rooms.

What else is on that weekend

One of the busiest weekends of the Dubai year, and one of the events is on your site.

WhatWhenWhereWhat it means
The WASLA festival28 NovemberJubilee Park, Expo City DubaiThe same site as the race, on the Saturday. The grounds and the metro station will be busy from the afternoon into the night.
The Emirates Dubai 7s27 to 29 NovemberThe Sevens Stadium, out on the Al Ain roadAll three days. It is the biggest sporting weekend in the city and it takes a large share of the hotel rooms.

What to see

Written for someone racing tomorrow, not a tourist with a week. Each entry says how far it is, because some of these are worth a longer trip and some are not.

The Dubai Frame

A 150-metre gold picture frame standing in a park, with the old city on one side and the new on the other. It is a silly idea executed completely, and that is the city in one building.

  • AED 50
  • Zabeel
  • allow an hour

The Miracle Garden

Fifty million flowers arranged into arches, aircraft and cartoon characters in the middle of the desert. It only opens for the cool months and November is the start of them.

  • AED 105
  • Al Barsha South
  • allow two hours

Visit site

The creek and the Gold Souk

An abra across the water costs two dirhams and takes four minutes. Ride it, then walk up through the spice and gold lanes on the other side.

  • AED 2 for the crossing
  • Deira
  • allow two hours

Al Fahidi

The few streets of wind-tower houses that survived, now galleries and courtyard cafes. Twenty minutes of walking tells you what was here before 1960.

  • Free to walk
  • Bur Dubai
  • allow 90 minutes

What to do

Jumeirah Open Beach

Free, public, clean and with a running track behind it. The sea is 27°C (81°F) in November, which is warmer than most people's showers.

  • Free
  • Jumeirah
  • as long as you like

A day in Hatta

Two hours east into the Hajar mountains, where there is a dam, a green reservoir and genuinely cold water. The bus is AED 25 each way from Dubai Mall.

  • AED 25 each way on the H02 bus
  • a full day

Visit site

The Marina walk

Seven kilometres of promenade around the harbour, flat and lit, and the only place in the city where walking somewhere is normal. Good for shaking the flight out.

The desert, properly
