Should you race here?
Two things decide this race. The venue is four miles from the airport and a mile from the Strip, so the logistics are easier than almost anywhere. And the air is drier than anywhere else on the calendar. It works on you in the days before the race, not during it.
Reasons to
- Harry Reid is four miles from the venue. Almost no other race is closer.
- A monorail station sits at the convention campus, so race morning needs no car.
- March is mild and dry: about 22°C (71°F) by day, and roughly 11mm of rain across the whole month.
- More hotel rooms within a mile than any venue outside the largest cities.
- The weekend has somewhere to go afterwards, which is not true of most convention-centre races.
Reasons not to
- Humidity around 22% is the lowest on the calendar. You dehydrate without noticing, and it happens in the days before the race.
- The convention campus is a mile from the Strip, so a Strip hotel turns race morning into a journey.
- Hotel rates here follow the convention calendar, not the season. The same room can double between weekends.
- Mornings start near 9°C (49°F) on an exposed campus. That is colder than people expect of a desert.
- Hyrox has not published which hall it is using, so you cannot plan the walk in until it does.
Conditions on the day
HYROX Las Vegas runs March 12th, 2027 to March 14th, 2027 at Convention Center. Here is what that specific window is like on the ground.
The catch
Mild, and extremely dry
22°C (71°F) by day, 9°C (49°F) before dawn
Las Vegas in mid March
- Humidity runs around 22%. That is drier than anywhere else on the calendar, and you lose fluid without feeling hot.
- Mornings start near 9°C (49°F) and the campus is exposed, so you will carry a layer you do not want to race in.
- March is the driest part of the year here, with about 11mm of rain across the month.
- Sunrise is 5:52am and sunset 5:47pm, so both ends of the day are in daylight.

Las Vegas has moved building, moved season, and grown from a single day into the best part of a week. Where you race, and when, changes the day more than most people expect.
Convention Center, your race is in this building
It is a convention campus rather than one hall. It sits a mile off the Strip and has its own monorail stop at the door.
Known for. Trade shows at a scale few venues match. CES fills the whole campus each January.
The building. The Las Vegas Convention Center opened in 1959 and has been expanded repeatedly, most recently with the West Hall in 2021. It was built for exhibitions, not for sport.
Race day and start times
The thing that shapes your travel is not the race date. It is when you find out what time you are racing on it.
Hyrox publishes a provisional schedule early, and it is for planning only. Your own start time goes up about three days before the event. Once a time is assigned it cannot be changed.
What to bring
Check-in opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division, and you can register from 90 minutes before your own start time. Bring government-issued photo identification and your registration confirmation. You cannot check in on another athlete’s behalf. If you need to get into the hall before your own check-in window opens, go to spectator check-in with your ticket and identification.
You do not bring a timing chip. You collect it at check-in and wear it on an ankle for the race. The Las Vegas information does not say where it is handed back, so expect to be told on the day.
What your wristband does not cover
Your wristband identifies your division and start wave and is worn where staff can see it. The Las Vegas page does not say that it admits you on any other race day, and it is not a spectator ticket. Anyone coming to watch should buy their own rather than assume.
Getting there on the morning
The Las Vegas Monorail stops at the convention campus, at Boingo Station. Neither the monorail nor the venue publishes a walking time from the platform to the halls, and no event parking price has been published for this race. Both are worth checking once the athlete guide appears.
What you need to book
Before you book
Arrive at least one full day before you race. Your start time is confirmed only about three days beforehand and could fall early on the first morning. Flying in on race day risks missing your wave.
If Hyrox cancels or postpones the event, its terms do not cover your flights or your room. Check the cancellation deadline on both before you pay for either.
Flying into the city
Harry Reid takes domestic and long-haul traffic and is four miles from the venue, so the airport is not the part of this trip to optimise.

Most people fly in for one race and see nothing. The day before is dead time if you do not plan it.

Flying out the same evening? This is the difference between a good afternoon and hauling a kit bag around a city.

Getting to Las Vegas
Harry Reid International sits four miles from the convention campus. Few races on the calendar are easier to reach.
Arriving from abroad
Harry Reid International is four miles from the convention campus, unusually close for a major airport. A taxi or rideshare takes about fifteen minutes. Most visitors from waiver countries need an approved ESTA before they board, not on arrival. Approval is not the same as admission: the decision is made at the border.
Entry requirements
Rules depend on your passport, and the pages below hold the current version. Nothing here replaces checking them.
Quick tip
The monorail does not serve the airport. From the terminal it is a taxi or a rideshare, and it takes about fifteen minutes.
Getting to the venue
The hotels around the convention campus are built for trade shows: functional, close, and quiet in the evening. The Strip is a mile west and a different kind of stay.
The monorail runs along the east side of the Strip and stops at the convention campus. It is the one journey here that does not involve a car.
Where to stay
Everything worth knowing about sleeping here comes down to one choice: the convention campus or the Strip. The campus hotels are a five minute walk from the halls and have no evening to speak of. The Strip has the evening and costs you a journey on race morning.
Open in Google Maps · Get directions
1. Las Vegas Marriott
The shortest walk to the halls of anything listed. It is a convention hotel, not a resort, and on race morning that is the point.
2. Courtyard Las Vegas Convention Center
Plain, close and predictable. Suits an early wave and an early flight home.
3. Residence Inn Las Vegas Convention Center
Suites with kitchens. That matters if you want control over what you eat the night before.
4. Westgate Las Vegas
A full resort with a pedestrian connection into the campus, so part of the walk is indoors. Check which hall you are racing in before counting on it.
Rates here follow the convention calendar, not the season. The same room can double between one weekend and the next, so check your own dates.
Neighbourhoods worth the commute
If you are bringing someone who is not racing, or you want an evening, the convention campus is the wrong place to sleep.
| Area | To the venue | Why | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Strip | about 10 min by monorail | The reason most people come to Las Vegas, and the only part of the city with a real evening. | A partner who is not racing |
| Downtown and Fremont Street | about 20 min by car | Older, cheaper and denser than the Strip, with its own bar and restaurant streets. | A longer stay on a smaller budget |
Eating before and after
The night before a race is not the night for the best meal of your trip, which is harder discipline than it sounds in a city this good at food.
Siegel's Bagelmania
A plain deli on Convention Center Drive, five minutes from the halls, doing soups, bagels and simple sandwiches. It is the nearest thing to ordinary food near the venue. Check the hours before you count on it. The listing says it closes mid afternoon, so treat it as breakfast or lunch.
Those are the safe choices near the venue. What follows is what Las Vegas is actually known for. Eat it after you finish, not the night before.
The buffet, and prime rib
Las Vegas built its food reputation on the casino buffet, shrimp cocktail and prime rib. All of it is rich, all of it encourages a second plate, and all of it is the wrong thing the night before a race. It is a very good thing the afternoon after one.
Race day supplies
The practical failures that spoil a race weekend are almost never the training. They are forgetting the gels, or carrying a kit bag around a city for six hours.
Pack list
- Everything you race in, because nothing near the campus sells it
- Gels and electrolytes, more than you think, for 22% humidity
- A warm layer for the morning you are willing to hand in at bag drop
- Lip balm and a water bottle, which the dry air makes less optional than they sound
- Photo identification for check-in
- A US plug adapter if you are coming from outside North America
Quick tips
- The dry air is the thing to plan for. At 22% humidity you lose fluid steadily without ever feeling hot. Drink from the day you land, not on race morning.
- The campus is a mile from the Strip. If you are staying there, work out your race morning journey the day before. Do not leave it to 6am.
- Nothing at the convention campus sells race nutrition. Bring what you train with.
The last race in Las Vegas
The most recent weekend in this city. Note that it was at a different building from the one you will race in.
What happened
The last edition, in short.
- Las Vegas has grown quickly: a small first edition in 2022, then two much larger ones in 2025 and 2026.
- The 2026 race was held at Mandalay Bay Convention Center, at the south end of the Strip, rather than at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
What it means for you
How your race differs from that one.
- The 2026 race was at Mandalay Bay and this one is back at the Las Vegas Convention Center, so a race report from last year describes a different building.
- The Convention Center campus is a mile from the Strip. From a Strip hotel, race morning is a journey.
- Each edition has been bigger than the last, so expect longer queues at check-in than the 2026 race had.
What else is on that weekend
Checked against your race dates, not the month.
| What | When | Where | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metallica | 13 March | Sphere | A Saturday night arena show across the Strip. It lifts hotel prices more than it affects your journey. |
| Boyz II Men | 12 and 13 March | The Chelsea, Cosmopolitan | On the Strip, both race nights. Traffic rather than a transport problem. |
| Tesla | 12 and 13 March | House of Blues | Mandalay Bay, at the far south end of the Strip and well away from the venue. |
What to see
Written for someone racing tomorrow, not a tourist with a week. Each entry says how far it is, because some of these are worth a longer trip and some are not.
Red Rock Canyon
Desert canyon country twenty miles west of the city, with a scenic drive and walking routes off it. It is the one thing here that looks nothing like Las Vegas. Go early and keep it gentle. Treat it as a recovery outing, not a hike.
The Strip, on foot after dark
Four miles of casino frontage that is free to walk and best seen at night. It is further than it looks on a map and the distances between resorts are deceptive, so pick two or three and stop there.
What to do
The Sphere
A spherical venue off the Strip with a wraparound interior screen, showing both films and concerts. It is the most distinctive thing built here in a decade and the show list changes constantly.
