Should you race here?

A downtown race you can walk to, two blocks from four blocks of live music.

Reasons to

  • The convention centre is in the middle of the city, so most hotels are a walk from the start line.
  • Broadway is two blocks away and has a band in every bar, with no cover charge.
  • The airport taxi is a flat USD 30 and the bus is two dollars.
  • Hot chicken, the Ryman and the Country Music Hall of Fame are all within ten minutes.

Reasons not to

  • Rooms by the venue average about USD 307, which is high for a December weekend.
  • It is the wettest month of the Nashville year and the mornings sit at freezing.
  • Under ten hours of daylight, with the sun gone by half past four.
The one to take seriously. The mornings are colder than the forecast high suggests. The December average is 10.6°C (51°F) by day but 0.7°C (33°F) overnight, and the walk to the hall at seven is the cold part. Dress for the walk, not for the hall.

Conditions on the day

HYROX Nashville runs December 9th, 2026 to December 13th, 2026 at Music City Center. Here is what that specific window is like on the ground.

The catch

Freezing at dawn, wet by habit

11°C (51°F) by day, 1°C (33°F) at night

Nashville in mid-December

  • The December average reaches 10.6°C (51°F) by day and falls to 0.7°C (33°F) at night.
  • It is the wettest month of the Nashville year: about 112mm across eleven days.
  • Humidity holds at 75%, which is what makes the cold here feel sharper than the number.
  • Daylight runs 06:49 to 16:33, so the light goes before half past four.

Nashville has moved building, moved season, and grown from a single day into the best part of a week. Where you race, and when, changes the day more than most people expect.

Music City Center, your race is in this building

A convention centre in SoBro with a roof shaped like a guitar, two blocks from Broadway and the honky-tonks.

Known for. The conventions that filled the district after it opened in 2013, and the rooftop beehives nobody expects.

The building. Opened in 2013 on a site south of Broadway that was mostly car parks, and the neighbourhood around it was built afterwards.

Race day and start times

The thing that shapes your travel is not the race date. It is when you find out what time you are racing on it.

Hyrox links individual start times on the event page about three days before the race. A provisional schedule goes up earlier.

What that means for booking. Book flights and the last night around the provisional schedule, not around a wave you have not been given.

What to bring

At the convention centre, and only on the day you compete. Registration opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division.

You do not bring a chip. You collect the ankle strap at check-in, wear it for the race, and hand it back after the line.

What your wristband does not cover

You are given a wristband at check-in. Hyrox has not published what the Nashville one admits you to, and check-in is open only on the day you race, so do not assume it covers a second day.

Getting there on the morning

On foot from almost any downtown hotel. It is a few blocks and it will be close to freezing, so layer up for the walk.

What you need to book

Before you book

Book flights and the last night around the provisional schedule, not around a wave you have not been given.

If Hyrox cancels or postpones the event, its terms do not cover your flights or your room. Check the cancellation deadline on both before you pay for either.

Flying into the city

It has grown faster than almost any American airport in the last decade, so allow time at security.

Getting to Nashville

Nashville International is a flat USD 30 by taxi to downtown, or two dollars on WeGo route 18.

The flat-fare taxi

Thirty dollars from the airport to anywhere downtown, set by the city rather than the meter. Simple, and often cheaper than a rideshare at a busy hour.

  • USD 30 flat

WeGo route 18

The airport bus into downtown for two dollars, which is the cheapest way in by a factor of fifteen. Slower, and fine if you are travelling light.

Visit site

  • USD 2

Entry requirements

Visa Waiver nationals need an approved ESTA before they fly. Everyone else needs a visa, and appointment waits vary by country.
Bring photo identification to check-in. Hyrox has not published which documents Nashville accepts.

Quick tip

The taxi fare downtown is regulated at USD 30 flat, so a rideshare is only worth it if the surge is low.

Getting to the venue

Downtown and SoBro put you within a few blocks of the hall. The Gulch is fifteen minutes on foot and much quieter at night.

Nashville International by WeGo route 18USD 2
A single bus fareUSD 2
A day pass on WeGoUSD 4
Parking at the convention centreUSD 20 for 9 to 12 hours

This is the rare American race where the venue is in the middle of the city rather than beside a motorway. If you stay downtown you will not need a car, a bus or a rideshare all weekend.

Where to stay

The convention centre is downtown, so for once the closest hotels are also the ones in the middle of the city. The question is how near Broadway you want to sleep.

2. Hotels in The Gulch

3. Hotels in Midtown

Cheaper than downtown, near Vanderbilt and the hot chicken, and a short ride from the hall.

  • about 10 min by road
  • 3 km
  • Around Music Row

December fills on the Opryland Christmas run rather than on conventions, which mostly affects the eastern hotels. Downtown is at its ordinary winter rate.

Neighbourhoods worth the commute

Nashville's districts ring the downtown grid, and everything below is minutes rather than miles from the hall.

AreaTo the venueWhySuits
SoBro 2 to 10 min on foot The blocks south of Broadway that grew up around the convention centre. New, convenient and without much character yet.
The Gulch about 15 min on foot A rail yard turned into restaurants and hotels, walkable to the hall and quiet after dark.
East Nashville about 10 min by road Over the river, where the people who work in the bars actually live. Good food, no polish.
Midtown and Music Row about 10 min by road Vanderbilt, the recording studios and Hattie B's. Cheaper rooms and a student-town evening.
Germantown about 10 min by road A small grid of nineteenth-century brick north of the capitol, with the best restaurants in the city and nothing else.

Eating before and after

The night before a race is not the night for the best meal of your trip, which is harder discipline than it sounds in a city this good at food.

The Gulch

Fifteen minutes on foot from the hall, with kitchens that serve at six and no live band in any of them. The quietest good dinner downtown.

  • About USD 16
  • 15 min from the venue
  • eat by seven

Germantown

The best restaurants in the city sit in ten blocks of brick north of the capitol, and they take a booking. Ten minutes by car and worth the ride.

  • About USD 25
  • 10 min from the venue
  • order the pasta

Nashville hot chicken is a real dish with a real history, and the heat scale is not a joke.

Prince's Hot Chicken Shack

The place the dish comes from, run by the same family since the 1930s. About nine dollars, and start a level below whatever you think you can handle.

  • About USD 9
  • North Nashville, 10 min from the venue
  • order mild and mean it

Hattie B's

The version that made hot chicken famous outside Tennessee, with a queue to match. About ten dollars for a plate and two sides, in Midtown.

Race day supplies

The practical failures that spoil a race weekend are almost never the training. They are forgetting the gels, or carrying a kit bag around a city for six hours.

Pack list

  • Proper cold-weather kit. The overnight average is 0.7°C (33°F) and mornings are often at freezing.
  • Waterproofs. December is the wettest month here, about 112mm across eleven days.
  • Earplugs if you are staying near Broadway. The music does not stop until two.

Quick tips

  • Take the flat USD 30 taxi rather than a surged rideshare from the airport.
  • A WeGo day pass is USD 4, which is two single fares, so buy it if you will ride twice.

Downtown Nashville is short of ordinary shops. There is a supermarket in The Gulch and another in Midtown, both ten minutes away.

The last race in Nashville

Music City Center is a recent addition to the Hyrox calendar, so there is little previous form here to pass on.

What happened

The last edition, in short.

  • The centre has several halls across two levels, so check your hall before you pick an entrance.
  • Broadway is two blocks away and loud until two in the morning. Pick your hotel accordingly.

What it means for you

How your race differs from that one.

  • December mornings here hit freezing: the overnight average is 0.7°C (33°F).
  • It is the wettest month of the Nashville year, about 112mm across eleven days.

What else is on that weekend

A busy December weekend downtown, though nothing shares the convention centre.

What to see

Written for someone racing tomorrow, not a tourist with a week. Each entry says how far it is, because some of these are worth a longer trip and some are not.

The Country Music Hall of Fame

Across the road from the convention centre, and good even if you do not like the music: it is a social history of the American south told through records.
