Should you race here?

A first Hyrox for the city, in a two-hall exhibition centre 0.8 km from the nearest beds.

Reasons to

  • Bus 148 stops at Galicyjska outside the venue, and hotels in Czyżyny are 0.8 km away.
  • A room near the venue is listed at PLN 314 (USD 80) and an ordinary meal at PLN 40 (USD 10).
  • May averages 19°C (66°F) by day, mild for travelling and for walking the city afterwards.
  • Daylight runs 05:06 to 20:07, so even a late wave finishes in light.

Reasons not to

  • An average May brings 93mm of rain across 14 days, so the walk in may be wet.
  • This is Krakow's first Hyrox, so there is no local form on halls, queues or timings.
  • Air quality over the year is moderate, with an annual mean daily AQI of 80.
The one to take seriously. The single thing to get right is check-in. Hyrox will only check you in on the day you compete, registration opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division, and nobody can collect for you. Bring photo identification. Early registration on the Friday is still listed as TBA, so do not build your travel around it.

Conditions on the day

HYROX KRAKÓW runs May 7th, 2027 to May 9th, 2027 at EXPO Krakow. Here is what that specific window is like on the ground.

The catch

Mild days, cool mornings, rain in the average month

19°C (66°F) by day, 9°C (48°F) at night

Krakow in early May

  • The May average reaches 19°C (66°F) by day and falls to 9°C (48°F) at night.
  • Rain averages 93mm across 14 days of the month, so expect a wet day in three.
  • Humidity sits at 73%, which is comfortable for racing indoors.
  • Daylight runs 05:06 to 20:07, just over 15 hours, so every wave finishes in light.

Krakow has moved building, moved season, and grown from a single day into the best part of a week. Where you race, and when, changes the day more than most people expect.

EXPO Krakow, your race is in this building

A two-hall exhibition centre in Czyżyny, east of the city centre, with more than 700 paid parking spaces. Bus 148 stops at Galicyjska outside the building.

Known for. Trade fairs, congresses and conferences. The two exhibition halls are Wisła at 5,000 m² and Dunaj at 4,000 m².

The building. The centre is Krakow's international exhibition and convention venue, run by Targi w Krakowie. Hyrox lists the 2027 race as the city's first.

Race day and start times

The thing that shapes your travel is not the race date. It is when you find out what time you are racing on it.

Hyrox has not published individual start times for Krakow. The schedule on the event page is marked provisional and subject to change.

What that means for booking. Book flights and your last night around the provisional schedule, not around a wave you have not been given.

What to bring

Race-day registration is at Targi w Krakowie, Galicyjska 9. You can only check in on the day you compete, and registration opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division. Bring ID, and go yourself: nobody can check in for you.

Hyrox has not published how timing works at Krakow. The event page lists only ID and in-person check-in, so do not plan on bringing anything else.

What your wristband does not cover

You are given a wristband at check-in. Hyrox has not confirmed that it admits spectators, so do not rely on it for anyone travelling with you.

Getting there on the morning

Bus 148 stops at Galicyjska by the venue, and trams 1, 14 and 22 reach Rondo 308 Dywizjonu, about five minutes away on foot by one venue guide. First-service times are not published, so check the night before if your wave is early.

What you need to book

Before you book

Book flights and your last night around the provisional schedule, not around a wave you have not been given.

If Hyrox cancels or postpones the event, its terms do not cover your flights or your room. Check the cancellation deadline on both before you pay for either.

Flying into the city

No direct airport bus or coach to EXPO Krakow was found, and no single fare for the whole airport journey is published.

Getting to Krakow

John Paul II International Krakow-Balice (KRK) is the city's airport, about 58 minutes from the venue by train and tram.

The airport train and tram

The SKA1 train runs from the airport to Kraków Grzegórzki, then tram 22 goes to Rondo 308 Dywizjonu and you walk to EXPO. A route planner puts the whole thing at about 58 minutes.

  • PLN 20 (USD 5) for the airport train to Kraków Główny
  • about 58 min in total

A taxi from the airport

About 20 minutes by road. A route planner quotes PLN 75 to 95, while the airport's own flat-fare service charges by distance zone and the zone for EXPO is not published.

  • PLN 75 to 129 (USD 19 to 33)
  • about 20 min

Entry requirements

No entry rule for Poland was reachable in the research for this guide. Poland is in the Schengen area. Check the requirement for your own nationality with the Polish government before you book.
Hyrox says to bring ID to check-in and that someone else cannot check in for you. Which documents Krakow accepts is not published, so bring a passport if you have one.

Quick tip

A taxi from the airport takes about 20 minutes and runs PLN 75 to 95 (USD 19 to 24) on a route planner. The airport's own flat-fare service lists PLN 109 (USD 28) for 12 to 14.9 km and PLN 129 (USD 33) for 15 to 18.9 km. The zone for EXPO is not published.

Getting to the venue

Czyżyny is the venue's own district, 0.8 km away. Stare Miasto, the Old Town, is 5.3 km and 14 minutes by road.

Galicyjska stop, bus 148at the venue
Rondo 308 Dywizjonu, trams 1, 14 and 22about a 5 min walk, per a venue guide
Krakow Airport (KRK) by train and tramabout 58 min, full fare not published

A single journey in the cityPLN 6 (USD 1.50)
A 24-hour Zone I ticketPLN 20 (USD 5)

Bus 148 stops at Galicyjska outside the venue. A venue guide also puts trams 1, 14 and 22 at Rondo 308 Dywizjonu, about five minutes on foot, which is an estimate rather than a measured walk. A single fare is PLN 6 (USD 1.50) and a 24-hour Zone I ticket is PLN 20 (USD 5), so the day ticket pays for itself on the fourth journey.

Where to stay

The venue is in Czyżyny, on the eastern side of the city. Stare Miasto, the Old Town, is 5.3 km away and 14 minutes by road.

  • The Old Town

Krakow's official calendar estimates 5,000 participants for the race, so rooms near the venue will go first. No other large event at EXPO Krakow was confirmed for the weekend.

Neighbourhoods worth the commute

These are the districts away from the venue, and each is 14 minutes or less from it by road.

AreaTo the venueWhySuits
Grzegórzki 9 min by road, 3 km A well-connected district with tram links and rooms outside the Old Town. The airport train stops here.
Podgórze 10 min by road, 4.4 km Quieter and more residential, across the Vistula from Kazimierz. Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory is here.
Kazimierz 11 min by road, 4.7 km A historic quarter with cafés, restaurants and nightlife. Plac Nowy and its zapiekanki are in the middle of it.
Stare Miasto 14 min by road, 5.3 km Krakow's medieval core, ringed by the Planty park. Central and convenient for a short stay.

Eating before and after

The night before a race is not the night for the best meal of your trip, which is harder discipline than it sounds in a city this good at food.

Norma, Życzkowskiego 5

A pasta restaurant in Czyżyny, the venue's own district, listed in the city's trade-fair dining guide. Pasta is a simpler choice than a heavy traditional meal.

  • No menu price is published
  • Czyżyny, 4 min by road from the venue
  • check the hours before you go and eat by seven

A milk bar

Milk bars are plain Polish canteens serving soup, dumplings and potatoes at a counter. A meal is cheaper than a restaurant and the portions are predictable.

  • PLN 20 to 35 (USD 5 to 9)
  • Stare Miasto, 14 min by road from the venue
  • order soup and boiled pierogi, and eat by seven

Krakow's own food is dumplings, soup and street snacks, and the cheap versions are the ones worth queueing for.

Zapiekanki at Plac Nowy

A long open baguette with mushrooms and cheese, grilled and served from the round hall in the middle of the square. It is the standard Krakow late snack.

  • PLN 8 to 18 (USD 2 to 5)
  • Kazimierz, 11 min by road from the venue
  • order one after you race, not the night before

Pierogi

Polish dumplings, boiled or fried, served eight to twelve on a plate. Guides put a portion at PLN 25 to 38, and the boiled ones sit lighter than the fried.

  • PLN 25 to 38 (USD 6 to 10)
  • Stare Miasto, 14 min by road from the venue
  • order them boiled if you are racing tomorrow

Race day supplies

The practical failures that spoil a race weekend are almost never the training. They are forgetting the gels, or carrying a kit bag around a city for six hours.

Pack list

  • A rain jacket. An average May brings 93mm of rain across 14 days.
  • A warm layer for the morning. Overnight lows average 9°C (48°F) and the sun is up at 05:06.
  • Photo identification for check-in. Hyrox says to bring ID and that nobody can check in for you.

Quick tips

  • Buy a 24-hour Zone I ticket at PLN 20 (USD 5) if you will make four journeys. A single is PLN 6 (USD 1.50).
  • Driving in costs PLN 40 (USD 10) a day in the venue car park, which has more than 700 spaces.

No shop or supermarket near the venue could be verified in the research. Buy water, food and anything you need before you travel out to Czyżyny.

The last race in Krakow

Hyrox lists the 2027 event as the first race held in Krakow, so there is no local form to pass on. The venue is named on the event page, and there is no earlier Krakow race to fall back on.

What happened

The last edition, in short.

  • The event page names EXPO Krakow, Galicyjska 9, and does not say which of the two halls is used.
  • Race-day registration opens 90 minutes before the first start wave of your division.

What it means for you

How your race differs from that one.

  • Early registration on the Friday is still marked TBA, so plan to check in on the day you race.
  • An average May brings 93mm of rain across 14 days, so pack a jacket for the walk in.

What else is on that weekend

Two Polish public holidays fall in the week before the race, and none falls on the race days themselves.

WhatWhenWhereWhat it means

What to see

Written for someone racing tomorrow, not a tourist with a week. Each entry says how far it is, because some of these are worth a longer trip and some are not.

Wawel Royal Castle

The royal residence on the hill above the Vistula, with museum exhibitions and courtyards. The combined ticket covers the first-floor and second-floor routes.

  • PLN 95 (USD 24)
  • Stare Miasto, 14 min by road from the venue
  • May opening hours are not published, so check the castle site before you go

  • open Tuesday to Sunday 9:00 to 20:00, allow two hours

  • Kazimierz, 11 min by road from the venue

What to do

The Planty ring

  • Free
  • Stare Miasto, 14 min by road from the venue
  • walk part of it the day before, not the whole loop

The Sunday flea market at Hala Targowa

A market square that fills with second-hand stalls on Sunday mornings, from around 06:00 until mid-afternoon. Entry is free and an hour or two is enough.

  • Free
  • Grzegórzki, 9 min by road from the venue
  • go early on the Sunday, before or after your wave

Podgórze on foot

The quieter residential district across the Vistula from Kazimierz. It is the easiest low-effort hour in the city if you are racing the next day.

  • Free
  • Podgórze, 10 min by road from the venue
  • combine it with Schindler's factory, which is in the same district
