Should you race here?
A venue standing inside a decommissioned steelworks, under the Sierra Madre, in the home of cabrito.
Reasons to
- The venue is inside Parque Fundidora, so the warm-up ground is outside the door.
- Metro Line 1 reaches the park and a single is MXN 15.
- An ordinary meal is about MXN 250, cheap for a major business city.
- Nothing of size is booked across the race days.
Reasons not to
- Monterrey has some of the worst air in Mexico, trapped in a mountain bowl.
- No hotel rate was reachable, so the weekend is harder to cost in advance.
- No transit day ticket exists, so every journey is a separate fare.
- It reaches 28°C (83°F) by day, and the park has little shade.
Conditions on the day

Monterrey has moved building, moved season, and grown from a single day into the best part of a week. Where you race, and when, changes the day more than most people expect.
CINTERMEX, your race is in this building
A convention centre inside Parque Fundidora, the old steelworks turned public park, with the furnaces still standing around it.
Known for. Trade fairs for the industrial north of Mexico, and the park's own festivals.
The building. The site was the Fundidora steelworks from 1900 until it closed in 1986, and the city turned the whole works into a park with the plant left in place.
Race day and start times
The thing that shapes your travel is not the race date. It is when you find out what time you are racing on it.
Hyrox links individual start times on the event page a few days before the race. A provisional schedule goes up earlier.
What to bring
At CINTERMEX, and only on the day you compete. Registration opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division.
You do not bring a chip. You collect the ankle strap at check-in, wear it for the race, and hand it back after the line.
What your wristband does not cover
You are given a wristband at check-in. Hyrox has not published what the Monterrey one admits you to. Check-in is open only on the day you race, so do not assume it covers a second day.
Getting there on the morning
Metro Line 1 to Parque Fundidora, then a walk across the park to the hall.
What you need to book
Before you book
The listing runs 16 to 18 April, so confirm your division's day before booking the last night.
If Hyrox cancels or postpones the event, its terms do not cover your flights or your room. Check the cancellation deadline on both before you pay for either.
Flying into the city
Texas airports are within driving distance for anyone crossing the border, which some athletes do.

Getting to Monterrey
Monterrey's airport is about twenty-three minutes from the park by taxi, at a hundred and fifty to a hundred and eighty pesos.
Metro Line 1 to the park
The line runs east to Parque Fundidora, at fifteen pesos a journey. No day ticket is published, so carry change.
A taxi from the airport
About twenty-three minutes for a hundred and fifty to a hundred and eighty pesos, which is the simplest way in with a bag.
Entry requirements
Quick tip
The airport bus connects to Metro Line 1 at Y Griega, which reaches the park directly if you would rather not take a cab.
Getting to the venue
Centro and Barrio Antiguo are closest to the park. San Pedro and Valle Oriente are the smarter districts, further out.
Metro Line 1 reaches Parque Fundidora and the airport bus connects to the same line at Y Griega. No day ticket is published, so each journey is MXN 15, and a taxi from the airport is MXN 150 to 180 for about twenty-three minutes.
Where to stay
The venue is inside Parque Fundidora, east of the centre. Centro and Barrio Antiguo are the nearest districts worth staying in.
Open in Google Maps · Get directions
1. Hotels around Parque Fundidora
Closest to the hall, with the park itself as the surroundings. Quieter than the centre and a short walk in.
2. Hotels in Centro
The historic centre and the enormous Macroplaza, with the museums and most of the rooms. Metro Line 1 links it to the park.
3. Hotels in San Pedro Garza García
The wealthy suburb with the best restaurants and the mountain views. Furthest out and the smartest of the three.
Nothing of size is booked across the race days, so rooms should price as an ordinary April weekend in a business city.
Neighbourhoods worth the commute
Monterrey sits in a bowl under the Sierra Madre, with the venue in a park east of the centre.
| Area | To the venue | Why | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parque Fundidora | 5 to 20 min on foot | The park around the venue, built in the old steelworks, with the furnaces, a lake and the canal running west. | |
| Centro | about 15 min by metro | The historic centre and the Macroplaza, one of the largest public squares in the world, with the museums around it. | |
| Barrio Antiguo | about 15 min | The old quarter beside the Macroplaza, with galleries, bars and live music in low colonial buildings. | |
| San Pedro Garza García | about 30 min | The affluent suburb under the mountains, with the best restaurants in northern Mexico and the shopping. | |
| Valle Oriente | about 25 min | The modern business district of towers and hotels, south of the centre. Functional and well served. |
Eating before and after
The night before a race is not the night for the best meal of your trip, which is harder discipline than it sounds in a city this good at food.
El Lingote, inside the park
A restaurant in the old foundry building within Parque Fundidora, so it is the closest option to the hall. Dearer than the city average.
Centro
Fifteen minutes by metro, with ordinary places around the Macroplaza doing rice, chicken and pasta from early evening.
Northern Mexico eats meat, and Monterrey's own dish is a young goat roasted upright over coals.
Cabrito at El Rey del Cabrito
Young goat splayed on a spit around an open fire, carved by cut. The Centro restaurant that made its name on it, and the thing to eat here.
Cabrito at El Gran Pastor
The other name for the same dish, on Constitución, generally cheaper and just as serious about it.
Race day supplies
The practical failures that spoil a race weekend are almost never the training. They are forgetting the gels, or carrying a kit bag around a city for six hours.
Pack list
- Light clothing. It reaches 28°C (83°F) by day in April.
- Something for the 17°C (63°F) dawn, which is cooler than the afternoon suggests.
- Sun protection. Monterrey is bright and the park has little shade.
Quick tips
- No transit day ticket is published. Carry change for MXN 15 singles.
- Park at entrance 6 or 10 if you drive, at MXN 200 for the day.
The centre and the districts around the park have supermarkets and OXXO stores, open late and on Sundays.
The last race in Monterrey
Hyrox raced in Monterrey in April 2026. No source confirms the hall or the layout from that edition, so there is little local form to pass on.
What happened
The last edition, in short.
- The venue sits inside Parque Fundidora, which is a park built in a disused steelworks.
- Metro Line 1 reaches Parque Fundidora, and the airport bus connects to it at Y Griega.
What it means for you
How your race differs from that one.
- Parking in the park is MXN 200 a day at entrances 6 and 10.
- No transit day ticket is published, so every journey is a separate MXN 15.
What else is on that weekend
Two concerts in the week before, and nothing confirmed on the race days.
| What | When | Where | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| A concert at Estadio Borregos | 8 April | Tec de Monterrey | Eight days before the race. Over well before you arrive. |
| A concert at Auditorio Citibanamex | 15 April | North of the city | The night before the race window opens. It will have cleared by the Friday morning. |
| Nothing confirmed on the race days | 16 to 18 April | Across Monterrey | No event of size was confirmed for the race weekend itself. |
| Parque Fundidora | All weekend | Around the venue | The park itself is free and open, with the furnaces, a lake and paths all around the hall. |
What to see
Written for someone racing tomorrow, not a tourist with a week. Each entry says how far it is, because some of these are worth a longer trip and some are not.
Parque Fundidora
A hundred and fourteen hectares of steelworks turned park, with blast furnace three left standing and open to climb. The venue is inside it.
The Paseo Santa Lucía
An artificial canal running two and a half kilometres from the park to the Macroplaza, walkable or by boat. The best way between the two.
MARCO
The contemporary art museum on the Macroplaza, in a Ricardo Legorreta building with a courtyard and a fountain. The best gallery in the north.
Chipinque
A mountain park on the Sierra Madre above San Pedro, with trails up into the cloud forest and the whole city below.
What to do
The park's own paths
Fundidora has loops of flat path around the lake and the furnaces, immediately outside the hall. The closest shake-out on this calendar.
Walk the Santa Lucía canal
Two and a half kilometres of waterside path from the park into the centre, flat and separated from traffic the whole way.
Grutas de García
Limestone caves in the mountains an hour west, reached by cable car. A proper half day out of the city.
Barrio Antiguo in the evening
The old quarter fills after dark with bars and live music in colonial houses, fifteen minutes from the park.
